Enl 133: Victorians and Folklore

Robson and Hillard

Group Projects

In addition to your other course work, you will be responsible for the completion of a term-long research project, which will be delivered as a 10-15 minute oral presentation during the last week of class. We assign this project to demonstrate the importance of other kinds of folklore in other historical periods or bodies of literature. This helps you understand not only the prevalence of folklore in all cultures and all historical moments, but also some of the changes folklore has made across time and space.

This assignment is worth 20 percent of your grade. The guidelines for the project are outlined below.

Content

  1. Analysis: is there a central, unified argument to the presentation?
  2. Background: does the group provide enough information that even those who are not familiar with the material can learn from the delivery?
  3. Research/Preparation: is it obvious that the group backs its presentation with a quarter’s worth of substantial preparation?
  4. Presentation style: has the group devised a presentation that is creative and pleasurable to watch? (Humor is welcome where appropriate, as long as it does not take the place of analysis!)
