This module has been created as an experiment in distributed learning or T.A. Training. No matter how it is used officially, I hope to distribute this module to instructors teaching English 3 - Introduction to Literature, so that they can be more fully aware of the many resources available to instructors teaching in our computer classrooms, and to those who wish to augment their non-CAI classes with web-based resources. Many of these resources, such as interactive quizzes, visual tours of the Globe Theater, and an easily-searchable color-coded variorum Hamlet, cannot feasibly be presented to students using any other medium.
This web site/ module is a work in progress. At the end of this page, you'll find a list of links and resources I plan to incorporate as this project grows. My primary goal is to make this page flexible enough to be useful to many different users in the U.C. Davis community.
This portion of Online English focusses entirely on the last third of an imagined quarter-long English 3 class, that being the section on Drama/ Shakespeare. Because of the number of web-based resources available, I have chosen to focus on Shakespeare's Hamlet (1600). Note that I have "assigned" more reading and homework here than I would to a typical English 3 class, in part so that visitors to this site can review a larger sample of the pedagogical choices. If I were to use this to augment an English 3 class that meets for four hours a week, I would replicate many of the listed activities in person.
