LAPTOP HOOKUP TO A SMART PANEL
General Assignment Room Look Up. All general assignment classrooms on campus now have Smart Panels to which you can hook up a laptop computer. You can look up any of the 119 general assignment classrooms and review a room's audio/visual capabilities as well as other characteristics (including photos of the room) at http://registrar.ucdavis.edu/schedule/html/room_lookup.cfm.
Media Cabinet Specifics. Computer Lab Management has put together a useful set of instructions at http://iet.ucdavis.edu/rooms/media_cabinet.cfm.
LAPTOP PROJECTION
PC Laptop Projection. For a PC, you typically press the Function or Fn key and the key that shows two screens or states, “CRT/LCD”. Usually the key is F8, but it can vary from laptop to laptop (on mine, it’s F5). Cycle through the various display options until the output shows up on the projection screen.
Mac Laptop Projection. For a Mac OS X, go to the Apple Menu, then go to System Preferences, then to Displays. Click Arrangement, then click Mirror Display for video mirroring. For Mac OS 9, go to the control panels, then go to monitors, then to arrange. Drag the image of one monitor screen over the other, then hit apply. In older Macs, turn on image mirroring and hit ok. Your laptop may ask you to reboot.
ACCESSING THE INTERNET
Before you can access the Internet through the Smart Panel, you’ll register your laptop with Campus DHCP at http://netaccess.ucdavis.edu/instruct.cfm. Your laptop probably already has a Network Interface Card (NIC), but you’ll need to buy an Ethernet cable (from the Campus Bookstore, for example, for about $10).

WIRELESS CONNECTION
You can set up your computer for one of two different campus wireless networks, either Moobilenet or the newer, secure MoobilenetX. For the latter you’ll need to update or refresh you current kerberos password by clicking on “Change Your Password” at https://computingaccounts.ucdavis.edu/cgi-bin/services/index.cgi. You can find out more about these two networks at http://wireless.ucdavis.edu/index.cfm, including links to campus coverage maps. Below I have posted links for configuring your computer to connect to MoobilenetX.
