Campus Computing Resources

Coordinator of Teaching Writing with Computers

Your first resource is the Coordinator of Teaching Writing with Computers, whose primary job is to lead computer-aided instruction both in and out of the classroom for UWP faculty. Please contact me with any questions you have about teaching in the computer labs or using SmartSite in your teaching. My office is 359 Voorhies, and my office phone is 752-1844. You can email me at dkmeisenheimer@ucdavis.edu.

IT Services Manager

Our IT Services Manager is Ron Ottman, whose office is 179 Voorhies Hall. You can contact him at 752-2253.

IT Express

Questions about computing problems should be addressed to IT Express through their website at http://itexpress.ucdavis.edu, or by phone 754-4357 (or 754-HELP).

Located on the first floor of Shields Library, IT Express provides the best customer service on campus when it comes to help with academic computing. IT Express has also developed and supports a free CD for instructors that offers necessary communication and antivirus software for Macintosh and Windows platforms. You can pick up the CD in Shields Library.

For more involved problems than IT Express handles, or for larger projects, consult ET Partners at their website at http://etpartners.ucdavis.edu/ index, or by phone at 754-2115 to set up a meeting with one of their staff.

Located in Everson Hall, ET Partners provide personal consultation with all academic computing projects, as well as frequent talks, colloquia and seminars on using computers as teaching tools. Their staff members are geniuses with PhotoShop, Dreamweaver, and FileMaker Pro, among many other applications.

Mediaworks

For the most ambitious projects––moving PowerPoint slides onto a web site, for example––you should contact Mediaworks through their website at http://mediaworks.ucdavis.edu.

The Teaching Resources Center (TRC)

For help with your teaching in general, visit the Teaching Resources Center website at http://trc.ucdavis.edu/trc/, or call them at 752-6050. The TRC offers training and support to all instructors who wish to augment their classes with course web pages. See the TRC Using Technology in Teaching page.

Other Useful Links

Computing Account Services

This page will not only help you establish your usercode/e-mail address, if you haven't done that already, but from here you can also review the variety of ways to access e-mail from home and work.  Consider now the utility of checking your e-mail from the web via Geckomail or MyUCDavis.

General Assignment Classroom Guide

This page allows you to familiarize yourself with any general assignment classroom on campus both in terms of its appearance and instructional technology. Just click on "Room Lookup" in the left-hand menu, then select your classroom from a pull-down list.

Electronic Mailing Lists

With a Class Mailing List (CML), you can communicate with all students by sending e-mail to a single address. You can also set the CML so that it informs you of adds and drops in the first weeks of your class. (Note that you can also establish and edit such lists from MyUCDavis.

Downloading Rosters

From this site you can see the class rosters, updated in real time, of the classes you teach. MyUCDavis Gradebook also offers users many options for recording, releasing and computing grades.
