Welcome to the home page for Teaching Writing with Computers (formerly known as Computer-Aided Instruction) at the UC Davis University Writing Program. This fall, I'll be moving materials from this website to a SmartSite dedicated to materials for using the computer labs. The new SmartSite is accessible to UWP faculty, staff, and graduate students teaching UWP courses.

Test your access to the new SmatSite by clicking here: Teaching Writing with Computers. If you do not have access, please contact me:

Coordinator for Teaching Writing with Computers: Donald Meisenheimer, dkmeisenheimer@ucdavis.edu

At present, the Coordinator for Teaching Writing with Computers helps UWP faculty use computers in their teaching both in and out of the classroom. This website and the new SmartSite provide documentation and step-by-step instructions and handouts for hardware and software changes that affect UWP faculty. In more general terms, I’m a resource person for questions concerning the use of technology in teaching in both the computer labs and traditional classrooms. I mentor instructors new to the computer labs, therefore, as well as helping computer lab veterans with recent software and hardware changes in the labs.

SmartSite

The biggest news for teaching with computers this year is the official roll-out of SmartSite. You no longer need to request a course SmartSite; instead, you can set one up yourself in just a few minutes.

I've put together instructions for setting up a SmartSite as well as some advice on using a few SmartSite tools. Contact me for an appointment if you'd like further help. TRC also offers workshops on SmartSite's uses as a research and/or teaching venue.
